New research is showing that screen addiction in tweens — especially excessive time on video games and social apps — is linked not just to mood problems like anxiety and depression, but also to higher rates of substance use and risky behaviors. Kids who spend way more time on screens than their peers tend to report worse emotional well-being, more trouble with impulse control, and more frequent use of alcohol or drugs.

Experts say it’s not just the amount of time, but how screens are used — compulsively, without breaks, or as a way to escape uncomfortable feelings — that seems to feed the cycle.

Bunnie Xo — podcast host, author, and the wife of artist Jelly Roll — recently shared that she experienced a frightening bout of suicidal thoughts while taking a GLP-1 weight-loss medication, describing that time as one of the “darkest” periods of her life.

She said the intense mood changes and depression came as a surprise because she’d previously only managed anxiety, and the emotional shift was overwhelming and scary. Thankfully she says she’s doing better now, but she’s speaking out to shine a light on how mental health side effects can happen and why honest conversations really matter.

📖 What’s The Meaning

A vibe check is a casual way to assess someone's mood, energy, or overall emotional atmosphere - either of a person, group, or place. It started online as slang among Gen Z and social media users and has since become a popular way to gauge whether the “vibes” are good, off, or just neutral.

The vibe check definition doesn’t only refer to people, but it can be used to describe different places or situations. For example, a vibe can also refer to an ambiance at a certain place, or depict an idea or a particular condition. The term vibe is also used to describe how someone has dressed, often in the phrase a whole vibe

North Carolina just received $11 million in federal funding to expand mental health services in schools — a big win for students, educators, and families alike. The money will help hire more counselors, social workers, and psychologists, giving kids easier access to support when they’re struggling with stress, anxiety, trauma, or everyday pressures. The initiative also aims to boost training for staff so schools can spot warning signs earlier and connect students with help before problems escalate.
