Today is National Dog Day.

Founded in 2004 by animal welfare advocate and pet lifestyle expert Colleen Paige, we take today to honor dogs, promote canine adoption, and recognize working dogs.

August 26 was chosen because it was the date Paige's family adopted her first dog from a local animal shelter when she was 10 years old.
