A New Mexico court has ordered Meta to pay $567 million into a fund addressing youth mental health damages caused by its platforms, bringing its total state liability to $942 million. As clinicians, it is critical to note that $420 million of these funds will directly subsidize youth treatment services, alongside mandatory platform changes targeting addictive features and age-verification gaps.

While Meta plans to appeal, this landmark ruling establishes a legal precedent holding tech giants accountable for product designs that spark compulsive use, anxiety, and depression in teens. This serves as a vital reminder to evaluate digital habits and platform safety features actively when safety-planning with adolescent clients.

More than 60 House Democrats have sent a formal letter to Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins demanding answers regarding a severe shortage of mental health providers within the agency. The congressional inquiry cites a ProPublica investigation revealing that hundreds of VA psychologists and psychiatrists have left the agency and not been replaced under the current Trump administration.

This exodus has forced remaining therapists into unmanageable workloads—such as substituting individual therapy with online groups of up to 35 veterans—leaving vulnerable patients at risk of falling through the cracks. While the VA defended its record by claiming a completed record number of appointments and reduced wait times, lawmakers have given the agency until August 14, 2026, to fully disclose its provider vacancy rates and patient wait times.

A tech writer shared his experience using ChatGPT to establish an effective, evidence-based stress-reduction routine. The chatbot recommended seven uncomplicated, foundational wellness habits: daily movement, controlled breathing with longer exhales, protecting sleep quality, five-minute journaling, mindfulness practice, simplifying priorities, and staying socially connected.

By integrating these simple habits—such as engaging in phone-free lunches, reducing caffeine, and using journaling prompts—the writer successfully reduced mental fatigue and protected his inner peace. Ultimately, the key to managing everyday anxiety is practicing small wellness habits consistently rather than pursuing intensive self-care perfectly.

Myth or Fact

MYTH: Mental illness doesn’t run in my family, so it probably won’t affect my child.

FACT: Mental illnesses like depression and anxiety can have genetic components, but genes aren’t the only driving factor. Anyone can develop mental health conditions at any point in life, so it’s important to look for changes in your child’s emotion and behavior.
