In a landmark case, a New Mexico jury ordered Meta (the parent company of Facebook and Instagram) to pay $375 million, finding the platform failed to protect children from online predators and misled users about safety. The lawsuit argued that Meta’s platforms allowed harmful interactions to happen, raising serious concerns about how social media impacts youth safety and mental health.
This is one of the first major rulings holding a tech giant legally accountable for what happens on its platform — and Meta says it plans to appeal.

A new study is sparking conversation by suggesting that eating more meat might help protect against Alzheimer’s — but only for certain people. Researchers found that individuals with a specific genetic risk (the APOE4 gene) who ate more unprocessed meat experienced slower cognitive decline and lower dementia risk over time.
But here’s the twist: the benefits didn’t apply to everyone, and processed meats were actually linked to worse brain health outcomes across the board. Experts stress that the findings are still early and don’t prove cause and effect — meaning diet alone isn’t a magic fix for brain health.
