🗞 U.S. Senators introduce bill to expand rural mental healthcare access. U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and John Kennedy (R-LA) introduced the Increasing Mental Health Options Act, which would drop an outdated Medicare physician-approval requirement and make psychologists eligible for bonus payments in underserved rural areas. 🗞 GLP-1 weight-loss drugs may lower psychiatric hospitalization risk in bipolar disorder. A Griffith University-led analysis of nearly 15,000 people with bipolar disorder in Sweden found those on semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) had a 21 percent lower rate of psychiatric hospitalization while on the medication. 🗞 Oregon's psilocybin program shows sustained mental health gains in largest study yet. A study of roughly 350 participants across Oregon's regulated psilocybin service centers found reduced depression, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms for months after sessions — the largest look yet at psychedelic use outside a clinical trial. 🗞 Connecticut launches an Office of the Behavioral Health Advocate. Governor Ned Lamont created a new state office to help residents navigate mental health parity and coverage issues, building on Connecticut's existing behavioral health parity laws. Read more at CT.gov
🗞 Pennsylvania advances bill to ease counselor licensing barriers. The state House passed a bill (188-14) aimed at helping recent graduates and licensed counselors move into the field more easily; it now awaits a final Senate signature before going to Governor Shapiro, who is expected to sign it. Parents today are trying to navigate a nonstop stream of tech decisions—from when to give a child a smartphone to how to handle social media and screen time—and there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Wirecutter surveyed more than 750 parents and found that many families are creating their own rules, adjusting them as kids grow, and focusing less on being “perfect” and more on building healthy habits and open conversations.
Healthy tech boundaries work best when they’re flexible, realistic, and built around trust. The goal isn't necessarily to eliminate technology—it’s to help kids and families use it in ways that protect sleep, relationships, and overall well-being. Read More at NYTimes.com
